Battle of Front Royal Driving Tour (March 14, 2015 1:00pm)

posted Feb 20, 2015, 1:02 PM by Justin Birckbichler
One of our biggest units in Virginia Studies is the Civil War. Our town was the site of the Battle of Front Royal. This was one of the many battles during Stonewall Jackson’s Shenandoah Campaign. We would like to provide the opportunity for your student and family to join us on Saturday, March 14th, 2015 to experience the driving tour of the battle. We did this for the first time last year, and had an outstanding event.

The tour is a 16-mile driving tour around Front Royal, with approximately 10 stops along the way. We will meet at the Visitor’s Center near The Mill restaurant at 1:00 PM sharp. We will be departing the Visitor’s Center for our first stop no later than 1:10 pm. In case of inclement weather, we will reschedule to March 22nd, 2015 at the same time. Please allot at least 3 hours for the entirety of the tour. At least one parent must accompany the child for the entire day and are responsible for their own transportation. At each stop, we will read the historical marker, listen to an audio recording from the Visitor’s Center, and discuss any information about the location. Following the “footsteps” of our Civil War leaders brings history alive for our students and their families!

We strongly urge you to join us on the tour. It will aid your child in their understanding of the Civil War, deepen their knowledge of the history of Front Royal, and spend a day in the outdoors! For the sake of planning, please fill out the RSVP form by March 13th, 2015. Thank you!

Mr. Justin Birckbichler and Mrs. Carrie Burke
